Inclement or Severe Weather Information In the event of the threat of severe weather conditions, tune your radio or television to one of the following stations for information concerning the possible closing of school:
If the weather is inclement or severe, please do not endanger yourself of your children to get to school. Some mornings it is best to wait a few minutes, let the traffic lighten, and ice melt before traveling to school. Children will not be counted tardy if late because of inclement weather conditions. It is more important to arrive at school safely than early! Use your best judgment and please do not call any of the school personnel. If weather dictates the need for a delayed start to school, the delay will be 2 hours. The delayed start time for school will be 10:15 a.m. Morning kindergarten, morning preschool, and morning daycare will be cancelled in this event. A Note from the Principal As cold weather arrives, I’d like to let you know that school delays and closures may be called and are done with the utmost concern for the safety of our families. Please know that the decisions made are not made lightly. I know that traveling in bad weather is unwelcome and I also know that some parents still work when the schools are closed and have to find alternative care for their children. On bad weather days, I am in contact with the street department of the city, other principals, and teachers/families that live in various parts of town to find out the travel conditions. The decision to delay or close is then made in the best interest of the safety of our families. That being said, and with the recent cold weather, it’s time to make plans. For the past several years, when the school was closed due to bad weather, the day care was also closed. That will continue to be our policy. However, we know that some parents still have to work when schools close and we would like to help. We would like to help make connections between those that need care on “snow days” and those that can provide it. If you would be willing to, on your own, open your home and care for some children from ILS on a “snow day” please give your name, address, and phone number to Connie or Jean. If you will need someone to care for your children on a “snow day” please contact Connie or Jean and they can give you the names of people willing to provide care in their homes and you can make your own arrangements with another family.
